Pump systems are a great opportunity to reduce energy and carbon emissions. While pumps can be very efficient by design, they are not always operated efficiently. According to the US DOEs motor market assessment commercial and industrial pumps systems have an average 26% energy savings potential. Annually this represents approximately $6.5 Billion in energy cost savings and carbon savings associated with 49 natural gas power plants. Realizing these savings requires the knowledge and resources to assess and optimize systems. Therefore, the Hydraulic Institute created the Pump System Assessment Professional (PSAP) Certification and associated pump and system, pump system optimization and assessment, and preparation training for the PSAP certification exam trainings. Additionally, resources and reference materials are available to help the energy efficiency professional.
HI University has FREE resources for students that include introductory training on pumps, systems, curves, operation, energy, selection, plus associated learning activities. Additionally, webinars are available specifically related to pump system optimization and assessment (PSOA) and pump system assessment (PSA) using DOEs MEASUR Tool.
The HI Data Tool and pre-assessment checklist are just two of the FREE resources that support understanding and assessing pump systems. Additionally, pump savings calculators are available to evaluate the LCC impact of installing efficient pumps. All resources can be explored at the HI Resource Center.
Dedicated to energy efficiency and improving system operations, the Hydraulic Institute publishes guidebooks and articles that cover the topics of pump life cycle costs, optimization, assessments, variable speed pumping and much more related to pump systems.
Pump system assessment professional (PSAP) is an industry certification that validates minimum requirements to effectively conducted assessments and optimize the systems. HI University offers training and certification preparation related to PSAP. It is recommended that students take Introductory, Basic and Intermediate Pump & System Training courses as well as the Pump System Optimization & Assessment and PSAP Exam Preparation courses.
