ANSI/HI 9.8 Rotodynamic Pumps for Pump Intake

Overview:

This standard applies to the design of new intakes as well as the modification of existing designs used with rotodynamic pumps. It outlines standard intake designs based on certain criteria, beyond which requires a physical model study to be in compliance with the standard. Ideally, the flow of liquid into any pump should be uniform, steady, and free from swirl and entrained air.  Lack of uniformity through inlet connection can result in pumps not operating to optimum design condition, at a lower hydraulic efficiency and result in poor reliability.

Those involved in the water and wastewater, process service, petrochemical service and other industries that funnel water and other liquids through intake connections to a pump would benefit from this standard.

What’s New:

This standard supersedes the ANSI/HI 9.8-2018 edition. Updates in the new edition include:

  • Revision to physical model study requirement for closed-bottom suction can pumps.
  • Improved guidance on pump operating conditions that influence intake design.
  • Updates and additions to terms and definitions.
  • Updates to content and figures that clarify or improve existing materials.

Print copies typically ship within 3 business days.
