Are you a professional who wants to boost your career prospects? Perhaps you need a better way to bring new hires up to speed. Or maybe you want to teach your team to apply a consistent set of best practices to pump system assessment and optimization.
Whatever your knowledge challenges, in-depth, pump-specific training is a must. This is why you should check out the Hydraulic Institute’s new, rapidly expanding training portal (https://training.pumps.org). The portal brings together all the courses created by Pump Systems Matter (PSM), the Hydraulic Institute’s educational foundation, for everyone from new hires, operators, and technical salespeople to designers, engineers, and pump system owners.
PSM’s offerings cover a wide range of subjects, ranging from short introductory classes for people new to the field to in-depth live classes and webinars for professionals. Companies could use them to develop training programs for both their professional and technical workforce.
Most professional-level courses provide professional development hour (PDH) credits. They include day-long instructor-led classes and live webinars as well as on-demand recorded webinars and self-paced e-learning courses that focus on single pump system components and issues, such as variable frequency drives, check valve selection, and water hammer suppression. PSM also offers courses to prepare for the Pump System Assessment Professional exam for those interested in obtaining the PSAP certification.
PSM also offers basic training in pump, component, and system fundamentals. These short courses are designed to bring new employees up to speed rapidly during the onboarding process and provide refreshers for the current workforce. These courses are free to Hydraulic Institute members and PSM Training Partners.
Here are how PSM’s offerings break down:
Instructor-led courses
PSM offers instructor-led courses as both in-person and virtual classes with all the give-and-take of a classroom. These full-day, professional-level courses cover everything from the fundamentals of pumping systems to pump system optimization for commercial buildings. Those who complete each of these classes receive 7 professional development hour (PDH) credits. PSM also offers three-day course bundles for professionals who want to fast track their PSAP certification exam preparation.
Live Webinars
The Hydraulic Institute and Pump Systems Matter broadcast live webinars monthly on fundamental to advanced topics ranging from engineering, design, and systems to components, maintenance, and operations. The webinars last one to four hours and participants receive one to four professional development hour (PDH) credits per course. Up-coming live webinars include:
On-demand (self-paced) webinars
On-demand webinars allow pump professionals to take previously recorded live webinars at their own pace. They generally receive one professional education credit per after passing the webinar exam, though some webinars may involve multiple modules and credits.
On-demand e-learning certification courses
PSM’s e-learning courses were developed to give professionals a deep understanding of pumps and pump system assessment. The courses offer five to seven professional development hour (PDH) credits plus a certificate of completion for those who pass the exams. The classes include:
Rotodynamic Pumps. This five-module course introduces rotodynamic centrifugal pumps and their construction, fluid mechanics, performance characteristics, and selection and application.
Positive Displacement (PD) Pumps. A five-module course that covers positive displacement pumps and their hydraulics, design, applications, and applications.
Pump Systems Assessment. This eight-module course goes deep on the proven methodologies required to audit and improve the energy efficiency of any pump system.
Basic training
Basic training provides the basics for new hires—and it is free for Hydraulic Institute members and PSM training partners. The 32 on-demand webinars and white papers cover everything from pumps and components to pump systems and other related topics. Companies can use these on-demand webinars for new employee orientation, personal development, and group training sessions.
