    • Meeting Highlights

Technical Tour: Annapolis Water Reclamation Facility
      Tuesday, June 27, 9:30 am - 12 pm & 12:30 - 3 pm

The Annapolis Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) is jointly owned by Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis. It was originally constructed in the 1970s and has undergone numerous upgrades and expansions since that time. The state recently put up $17 million for an upgrade to the plant. The Biological Nutrient Removal project, completed in 2003, provided for treatment to effluent nitrogen levels of 6 mg/l. The plant was expanded to a capacity of 13 million gallons per day (mgd) in 2007.  This is one of seven Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) projects that the County is pursuing in compliance with the State’s Bay Restoration Program.  When complete, nitrogen concentrate levels will be reduced from 8mg/L to 3 mg/L and phosphorus from 2 m/L to 0.3 mg/L.

      Chesapeake Bay Sunset Dinner Cruise
      Tuesday, June 27, 6 - 9 pm
      Boat - Bay

A visit to Annapolis wouldn't be complete without time on the water.  HI has planned a wonderful evening for our hard-working attendees out on the Bay!  Relax and network on a private boat charter with dinner and drinks.  An optional guided walk down to the dock will leave from the hotel lobby at 5:45 pm with a special, local guest.  The evening on the water will begin with a 30-minute dock-side reception.  Then the boat will depart for a sunset cruise on the Chesapeake Bay.  This event is included in meeting attendee registration but you must sign up in advance.  You may also register a guest in the online registration process for $80 per person.

      Noted Sessions & Committees

Pump Knowledge Workshop - Variable Speed Pumping with Eddy Current Drive Technology: Learn about eddy current drive technology, how it is used to control the speed of pumps, the theory of operation, applications used and how they perform. PDH credit is available for this session.

Intro to Committee Roles & Standards Development Procedures: Learn about where you can fit into the Hydraulic Institute, how committees are formed and their role in the development of American National Standards. This is a must attend session for new participants with HI to learn about how committees function and how standards are developed.  For our seasoned veterans this is a good refresher course.

ANSI/HI 9.6.7 – The viscosity committee is forming to begin work on the revision of the standard and will be evaluating published research and seeking new research to aid the committee in updating the viscosity performance correction models published in the standard.

ANSI/HI 9.6.4 – The vibration committee is forming to begin work on the revision of the standard and is evaluating new pump and driver types to include in the scope of the next revision along with the data gathering and research required.

Engineering Data Book – The engineering data book committee was recently formed to update the 1990 publication to meet the working practices and expectations of the modern engineering community, define the content, format and platform of the new publication.

Acceptance Testing Criteria – This is a new committee that will define a project to explain the acceptance testing grades outlined in ANSI/HI 14.6 and the considerations in specifying one acceptance grade over another.
