Tim Albers, Director, Marketing & Product Management, Nidec Motor Corporation
Bill Marscher, President, Mechanical Solutions, Inc.
Seth Morris, Director of Sales, SparkCognition, Inc.
Can Technology save me – or give me the competitive edge?
Nidec/US MotorsEfficiency and the factors driving enablement and adoption. Adoption is occurring via legislation, lifecycle cost and environmental factors. Efficiency is enabled by low cost electronics which are driving an increase in usage of Integrated motor controls, VFD's and IIoT to greatly enhance system efficiencies. A few examples of the enabling technologies and how they could affect the future.
Mechanical Solutions, Inc.Explore how 9.6.8 is a vision of things to come in terms of the industry doing better upfront analysis of the pumps and pumping systems before they get constructed or installed. Then after installation, having appropriate intelligent monitoring systems which include diagnosis and prognosis of the equipment in a form that can be relied up. This is a wave of the future.
SparkCognitionArtificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are being
effectively applied by a leading pump manufacturer to protect the health of
machine assets, minimize maintenance costs, and optimize schedules. Current
systems can identify failures only a few hours in advance, limiting the ability
to prepare, respond and remediate unplanned asset downtime. Advanced Machine
Learning predicts failures with significant lead time (often times days in
advance), identify the health of Boiler Feed Pumps and identify failure issues
such as mechanical seal failures, rotor lock, bearing damage, water leak, and
outer thrust temperature issues. Join this presentation to learn how Artificial
Intelligence and Machine Learning will become even more prevalent, and how they
can impact your bottom line and transform your business.

Erik R. Peterson, Director, A.T. Kearney’s Global Business Policy Council
Contemplating Global Wildcards: Over past years, a number of global “wildcards”—unknown-unknowns—have changed the international landscape. The volcano in Iceland, the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the Eurozone debt crisis, the “flash crash” in Wall Street, the Korean Peninsula crisis, and the 2008-09 Great Recession all reflected the complexities of risk management. Looking even further into the future, Erik Peterson scans the risk-management horizon by outlining four worlds of potential global change: (1) “Left Behind,” an examination of government systems that are increasingly embattled; (2) “Resource Crash,” the food-water-energy pressures that are on the horizon; (3) “Technology Renaissance,” the rapid innovation and diffusion of breathtaking technologies that improve the human condition and improve the physical environment; and (4) “Geopolitical Scramble,” the accelerating shift in political and economic power across the world. All of these are narratives—not predictions. He offers audiences a range of futures for leaders to plan against and looks at how it is better to be imprecisely right than precisely wrong in future planning. By visiting divergent futures, each one forces leaders to stress-test existing assumptions, conclusions, and strategies. Mr. Peterson will also provide a follow-up presentation during the CEO Roundtable the following morning.
Friday, March 10, 6 - 9:30 pm (post-reception to follow)
A highlight of the conference, the Centennial Gala will bring together past, present and future leaders of the pump industry to celebrate and honor collective achievements.
